Bedford Soccer Association, East Hants Soccer Association, Sackville United Soccer Association and Scotia Soccer Club are working together to form an amalgamated district and a new club.

This newly amalgamated region, known as Suburban District, will be seeking approval at next weeks’ Soccer Nova Scotia Board Meeting.  Once approved the new structure would replace the former set up of three separate districts, working as one region.

Complete details appear in the press release below.

SOCCER CLUBS UNITE – NEW DISTRICT AND TIER 1 CLUB FORMED

LOWER SACKVILLE, NS, JANUARY 5, 2010: Four local soccer clubs; Bedford Soccer Association, East Hants Soccer Association, Sackville United Soccer Association and Scotia Soccer Club have teamed up to form an amalgamated district and a new club. The newly amalgamated region known as Suburban District represents over 4500 soccer players and covers a wide landscape including Fall River, Lower Sackville, East Hants, and Bedford. The new club, also part of the new district, will support Soccer Nova Scotia’s initiative for regionalized competition following the Canadian Soccer Association’s Long-Term Player Development model.

With over 40,000 players in the province, soccer remains a popular and growing sport within Nova Scotia. The new Suburban District will contain players from age 3 to Senior fielding teams at all levels of play. In order to build a higher level of player development, the new Suburban Football Club has been formed to field regional teams in the Nova Scotia Soccer League. Players from the four clubs in the district who are interested and capable of playing at the elite level will tryout for the regional club.

Bedford Soccer Association, East Hants Soccer Association, Sackville United Soccer Association, and Scotia Soccer Club will continue to operate individually and maintain their own identity for mini, recreational and Tier 2 levels of play. The creation of Suburban FC will allow the four clubs to focus on the development of Tier 2 and Mini players improving their soccer experience and helping to develop a passion for the World’s greatest game.

The new Suburban District will host its first regional event on Sunday, January 10th, 2010 at Sackville High School. Teams from each of the four Clubs will participate in player development sessions throughout the day. A presentation involving special guest Daniel Worthington (NTC-A Coach, SNS Staff Coach) will be held from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Sunday, January 10th, 2010 at Sackville High. This presentation will be paired with the official unveiling of the new Suburban FC identity and will further outline some of the new programs being offered within the region.
