Soccer Nova Scotia's Men's team faced Quebec in their second group game. With both teams already qualified for the quarter finals, the game would determine placing for the next round. Nova Scotia started brightly and had a couple of early chances. Quebec was very technical and settled into some good early possession. Mid way through the first half, Ian Greedy took a through ball from Sandy Hunter and slotted the ball passed the Quebec keeper to give NS a 1-0 lead. Towards the end of the first half Marcus Greenlaw, who was having a great game in mid-field was sent off for what the ref saw as dangerous play. Nova Scotia adjusted their formation in the second half to play with ten men - Quebec equalized mid way through the second half. The boys then held on creating a few chances to win the game on counter attacks - Quebec scored the winner in the last minute following a NS corner when they caught NS on the break. Although Quebec came out victors the coaching staff were relieved not to have to play 30 minutes of extra time with ten players. The NS team battled hard and proved they can play with the top provinces in the country. The team are now preparing for today’s' quarter final game against Newfoundland at 4:00pm in Montague. |
