B License Part 1
The B License Part 1 (Provincial B License) focuses on working with high performance athletes up to the age of 14 years old. This course involves both theory and practical coaching work. The B License Part 1 is mandatory to be a head coach for the SNS Academy Program.
Starting in 2015, the theory component will be available online using E-Learning methods. All candidates must successfully complete the theory content during the month of April in order to attend the on field practical sessions.
The practical components are heavily geared towards the ability of the coach to plan and implement effective training sessions based on a variety of pre-selected technical and tactical coaching topics. Each participant will undergo two (2) practical coaching assessments, a theory exam, laws-of-the-game exam and a session plan evaluation.
The course will focus more on group play within the following practices: Technical, Skill, Small-Sided-Games & Functional practices. The theory will focus on:
- The Structure of the Game
- Match Observation & Identifying Session Focus
- Provide Support to Players in Training (Coaching Methodology, Correction & Session Setup)
- Coaching Philosophy
- Practice Types
- Session & Periodized Planning
- Principles of Play
- Developing Intelligent Players
- Player Preparation & Performance
- Basic Mental Skills
To complete the training candidates will also need to take the NCCP Competition Introduction Advance Modules delivered through the Department of Health and Wellness. For information on NCCP theory courses in Nova Scotia, please refer to the following site: www.coachingns.ca
Participants who have successfully met the assessment standards of both the practical and theory components of the B Provincial course will be eligible to apply for Part 2 of the B License Program.
The B Provincial License Practical component will be offered annually each May at the BMO Soccer Centre.
